Biography

Jason P. Levin is partner at Gafni & Levin LLP.  Mr. Levin represents intellectual property owners in licensing deals and litigation and represents owners and investors in a wide range of matters including business, entertainment and real state.

Before joining Gafni & Levin and its predecessor firm, Mr. Levin practiced at several large law firms in Los Angeles and Boston on matters that included large-scale entertainment, employment, and intellectual property litigation; bankruptcies; and both regulatory and internal investigations (SEC, FINRA, State Attorney Generals and the DOJ). Previously, Mr. Levin worked at John Hancock Financial Services and MetLife Advisers, coordinating the corporate governance of mutual funds and ensuring compliance with internal fund policies and procedures and SEC regulations. He was chiefly responsible for a variety of fund filings.

Mr. Levin is a graduate of Trinity College (Hartford, CT) and received his Juris Doctorate from Northeastern University School of Law (Boston, MA).  At Trinity, Mr. Levin was a volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club and played varsity basketball, leading the team to the Division III Elite Eight. At Northeastern, he participated in the Domestic Violence Clinic, advocating for clients in civil restraining order matters.  Additionally, during his time at Northeastern Mr. Levin interned for the Honorable Ann Walsh Bradley, Wisconsin Supreme Court; Brown University’s Office of the Vice President and General Counsel; Stern, Shapiro, Weissberg & Garin LLP; and State Street Bank and Trust Company.

Outside of the office, Mr. Levin stays active in the community through work with many non-profits, including but not limited to the Jay and Rose Phillips Family Foundation of California, Harvard-Westlake School (Middle School Boys Basketball Coach from 2012-2015), Jewish Big Brothers (Solomon is his Little Brother).

Mr. Levin is an active member of the Bars of both Massachusetts and California.

Practice Areas

Real Estate & Construction

Jason Levin has represented general contractors, subcontractors, architects, and soil engineers in a wide variety of complex construction defect litigation and delay damages claims. He has brought and defended against mechanics lien, collection, and breach of contract of matters arising out of construction disputes.

Jason has represented real estate professionals such as architects, engineers, and real estate brokers and salespersons in matters involving allegations negligence, fraud, and breach of contract matters. He has counseled architects in contract formation and negotiation.

Mr. Levin has represented owners, investors, partners, and developers in complex real estate litigation, quiet title actions, and fraud litigation involving numerous properties throughout California, including commercial development, multi-family development, and vacant land.

Attorneys in the firm have drafted and negotiated real estate option purchase agreements, purchase/sale agreements, and related agreements for investors and owners in real State industry. Mr. Levin regularly counsels commercial landlords and commercial tenants in lease negotiations, commercial lease litigation.

Intellectual Property

Jason Levin has extensive experience in a wide-variety of intellectual property litigation, including employee or competitor trade secret misappropriation, trademark infringement, copyright infringement matters. Mr. Levin is regularly involved in patent infringement litigation and counseling of businesses considering patent infringement matters or facing issues of patent infringement.

Mr. Levin regularly counsels business owners, corporations, and individual designers and artists in matters of trade secret, trademark, and copyright protection and associated licensing issues. He has drafted licensing agreements to assist in the expansion of his clients’ businesses as well as confidentiality and related agreements with his clients’ employees or independent contractors to ensure his clients rights are adequately protected. Mr. Levin also assists his clients in obtaining trade mark registration.

Business Litigation

Jason Levin has represented partners, officers shareholders, and corporations in a wide-variety of business litigation, collection, and unfair competition matters. He has also frequently represented lending institutions, distributors, textile manufactures, and other creditors in general commercial collection actions, including those involving foreclosure upon security interests and often successfully obtained pre-judgment orders such as writs of attachment to assist in the ultimate collection of judgment.
